if you are home on friday night

Peeps. (PEEPS! EASTER! FREE ASSOCIATION! Eww, Peeps are gross, right?)

Anyway, peeps, I have a problem.

I can't listen to music. I mean, really, unless I am LISTENING TO MUSIC, I just can't do it.

First, I had to stop listening to music in the car because it made me too emotional while driving (and that is just dangerous).

Then, I discovered I can't work while listening to music because I get too distracted by the words and sounds in my ears to focus on the words on the page.

And NOW (how now, brown cow?) I don't even want to listen to music when I'm hanging out, cooking, cleaning, blogging, listening to the rain fall (love that), because, well, it just crowds out my thoughts. And a clear thought is such a rare thing, that I don't want to miss one because I'm being swept away on the melodies of someone else's thoughts.

You know?

What's a girl to do?

Also, I think I may have sugar-high-by-osmosis because this bad boy is in the oven, thanks to the generous recipe sharing of Mikaela, who does NOT get enough love on this blog. Let the record show, girlfriend is a genius.

And FINALLY, go butter your bread.

  1. Friend, you are my antithesis! I am always teased mercilessly for NOT listening to lyrics...which alas occasionally means I end up loving the melodies of songs with questionable lyrics only to have them awkwardly brought to my attention by another, most often my husband. Ha. Anyway, you make me want to be a better listener! Happy easter, Lady Natalie :)

  2. good Lord Nat, it is clear that you most certainly are on a sugar high; for the first few paragraphs I was convinced someone had hijacked your blog

  3. You could turn those thoughts of your own into songs.

Also, I like you with a sugar high.

  4. Agreed, Natalie! Music can be a nemesis...or, less dramatically, a nuisance. Maybe you need to treat yourself to some live shows soon. Only listening to live music for a while helps me to appreciate music more by marrying it to rarity, that inciter of desire...

  6. I'm considering going on a aural fast. Right now I'm caught in this cycle where every time I do the things I do- bake, draw, print- I am compulsively listening to something. Be it podcasts, music, audiobooks, it's like I can't do anything unless I have something else going on, and my productivity is definitely suffering for it. (especially when I take it a step further and try to watch movies or hulu at the same time as the thing I'm supposed to be doing.)

Multitasking is not my friend, its my ADDICTION. Maybe I should do a post on that.

and thanks for the love :)
